Hitting Another Wall of Camino Resistence

April 20, 2013, Day 21, Boadilla del Camino to Carrion de los Condes (29 km)

Outer Journey

Inner Journey

A stunning walk out of Boadilla along the Canal Castilla.  The morning was crisp and cold but it felt good and refreshing.  The colors of the landscape were spectacular.  I stopped in the Templar town called Fromista for ham, eggs and consume.

And then WAMMM!  I hit a wall coming out of Fromista.  For the next 15 km I didn’t feel at all well.  I did’t want to walk and I didn’t want to talk.  The thought of a cafe con leche 5 km down the road kept me going.  Edgar and I decided to get off the main road and follow the river which went along side The Camino.  It was a good idea but I still felt horrible.

We stopped by this trippy retro bar/alburgue that had tipis. They played great 60’s music and the guys working there were totally stoned…it was pretty funny. I tried to trade my 5 toed shoes for a burro but failed.

We ended up having an early supper at Meson Templario in Villalcazar…steak, fries, white asapragus, wine and ice-cream cake.  I was slightly tipsy the last 6 km and somehow survived the day.

Buen Camino!

Dear Alison, Sorry to hear of your illness. Perhaps, you ate something that disagreed with you. Happily, with your usual resilience, you overcame it. You are made of sturdy stuff
which serves you well when the going gets tough. Since our reports are late, you must be finished by now or close to it. It will be great to hear of your triumph, and your mother and I have bought our tickets to California in June. We can”t wait to see you, look at your pictures, and hear your stories. You must write up your adventures when you get back to warm, sunny California. Keep well, and we’ll see you soon. Love, Mom and Dad

Dear Sovereign daughter: We have been keeping track of you via your facebook and texts to the girls, so we know you made it to the “end of the earth”. Congratulations! It is quite an accomplishment and we don’t know how you did it. We look forward to getting all the details in June when we celebrate YOU! Keep Dede posted as to your whereabouts, she is a great secretary (and booster). Muchos besos y abrazos de tu mama gallega. Buen camino,

I read your posts as they come through Alie, and reflect in silence the wonder of this time you have given yourself. Tomorrow is Mother’s Day here. A long and challenging labor fades quickly after the baby is in your arms. I look forward to the announcement of your birth. With love and abiding regard for your spirit birthing anew, Maggie
