April 18, 2013, Day 19, Hornillos to Castrojeriz (20 km)
Outer Journey
All day walk along the Meseta with only the sounds of nature. At the peak today we reached the hight of 3,117 feet. Stunning views. We passed through the towns of San Bol, Hontanas, Arco San Anton and arrived in Castrjeriz.
Inner Journey
A beautiful and peaceful walk across the Meseta with my German companion, Edgar. We also met Mike and Brian from Liverpool in the pretty town of ____.
Today was another reminder to not take what you hear and read as Truth. So many people suggested taking a bus across the Meseta because it is long and terribly broing. Well it ended up being one of my favorite walking days. The Meseta is so quiet and serene. There are so many birds singing and flying from tree to tree along the way. The Camino was also so gentle and kind. No big hills to go up or down. No rain. No puddles.
One of my favorite parts of the day was ending up in the pretty town of Castrojeriz and seeing the church of Our Lady of the Apple. Unfortunately it was closed when we arrived because it supposedly houses beautiful artifacts. However, what I loved most about it is the Apple is one of the signs of the Magdalene and the church had a big and beautiful rose window. The rose is another sign of the Magdalene.
We ended the day having a wonderful home cooked meal at the local bar with all of my new Camino friends.
Buen Camino!
