April 6, 2013 Day 7 Villatuerta – Monjardin (12 km)
Outer Journey
Not a long way walking but a steep ascent of 350 meters. I passed through Ayegui, Irache, Luquin and ended up in Monjardin…a lovely little town. The church was closed due to the snow, however, the owner of the little Auberge had a key and we had a private tour.
Inner Journey
I began my walk early in the morning, before the sun was entirely up. It was snowing and cold. The temperature was around 33 degrees. I was thinking…¨This is surely crazy¨. I saw the newspaper from the day before that had a story of some pilgrims being lost in the snow in Roncesvalles. I felt glad I was out of there. The others slept in; however, all I desired was to be away from that crazy Auberge without heat. So, I started walking away. My mind was chattering away complaining and blaming everything for my sore throat and fatigue. Funny thing, two hours later, I found myself smiling and singing along The Way. Nothing changed in my circumstances…I simply walked it off. So I think I may be out of work…all my clients may need to do is ¨take a two hour walk and check in with me in the morning¨.
Seriously, as St. Augustine said, ¨Solvitir Ambulanco¨¨which means, Ït is solved by walking¨. It supports the ontological framework that I use in my coaching practice and that is ¨reality¨ is created by the observer. My circumstanced didn´t change but my perspective did.
What I learned is that a two hour walk can change my perspective on anything. I will do my best to continue to incorporate ¨walking¨in my self-care routine when I return home. My life and the ones I love deserve me living from the perspective of having walked! Don´t you agree?
Buen Camino!
